Two-car garage with a seamless gray floor coating

Epoxy Garage Floor Coatings in Richmond, VA

An epoxy garage floor protects bare concrete from oil, road salt, and hot tires while giving the room a clean, finished look. We install epoxy garage floor systems across the Richmond area, from Henrico and Glen Allen to Midlothian and Chesterfield, and we size the system to how the garage actually gets used, not a one-size-fits-all package.

This page covers the systems we install for garages, how we prep the concrete, what the two-day install schedule looks like, and what it costs to get started.

Garage floor coating systems we install

Not every garage needs the same coating. We walk through the options at the free estimate and recommend a system based on how you park, how often the floor gets wet or salted, and what look you want.

    100% epoxy systems

A straightforward, solid-color epoxy build for garages that mainly need protection from stains and moisture without a heavy decorative finish.

Epoxy base with a polyaspartic topcoat

An epoxy base coat gives strong adhesion and color, and a polyaspartic garage floor coating topcoat adds UV stability and a fast return to use. This is our most common garage recommendation.

    Full-broadcast flake floors

Decorative color chips are broadcast into the base coat and sealed under a clear topcoat. See flake garage floors for how the flake process works and the texture it adds.

    Metallic epoxy

A pigmented, swirled finish more common in showroom-style garages and living spaces. Details are on the metallic epoxy floors page.

Who a garage floor epoxy coating is for

An epoxy garage floor coating makes sense if any of this sounds familiar:

    • Bare or painted concrete that is cracking, dusting, or staining from oil and tires
    • A garage used for parking, a home gym, a workshop, or extra storage that needs an easier floor to keep clean
    • Winter road salt and brine tracked in that is pitting or discoloring the slab
    • A garage you want to look finished before a sale or renovation

    Our concrete prep process

Coating adhesion depends almost entirely on prep, so this is where we spend real time before any coating goes down.

    Diamond grinding vs. acid etching

We mechanically grind the concrete with diamond tooling to open the surface pores and remove laitance, old paint, or failed coatings. This gives a mechanical profile the epoxy can grip. Acid etching is a lighter-duty chemical option that can work on bare, sound concrete, but it does not remove existing coatings or heavily sealed surfaces the way grinding does, and it does not expose the surface as consistently.

    Crack repair

Cracks are routed out and filled with a flexible repair material before coating so they do not telegraph through the finished floor. Active structural cracks are flagged separately, since a coating is cosmetic and will not fix a structural issue.

How long a garage floor coating takes

A standard two-car garage typically takes two days. We do not promise one-day installs because proper prep and cure time do not compress into a single day without cutting corners.

    • Day 1: diamond grinding, crack repair, and the base coat
    • Day 2: flake broadcast or color finish, then the topcoat

We give you exact walk-on and drive-on times for your specific system before we leave, since cure speed depends on the products used and the weather that week.

    Hot-tire pickup and Richmond conditions

Hot-tire pickup is when warm tires soften a coating enough to lift or mark it, which is more likely with a basic epoxy-only topcoat than with a polyaspartic topcoat. We factor this into the system recommendation for garages that park a vehicle right after driving.

Richmond's humid summers and salted winter roads both put real stress on a garage slab: humidity can slow cure times during installation, and salt brine tracked in from the driveway is a common cause of surface pitting on uncoated concrete. We schedule installs and pick products with both in mind.

What a garage floor coating costs

A standard two-car garage starts at $1,850. Final pricing depends on the size of the garage, the condition of the existing concrete, whether cracks need repair, whether an old coating has to be removed first, and which system you choose. We confirm the exact price after a free on-site estimate. See the cost guide for more on what moves the price up or down.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can I park in the garage after an epoxy coating?

It depends on the system installed and the weather during the job. We give you exact walk-on and drive-on times before we leave rather than a generic number.

Do you remove an old epoxy or paint coating first?

Yes, if there is an existing coating that is peeling or failing, we grind it off as part of prep rather than coating over it.

Can you fix cracks in my garage floor before coating it?

Yes, cracks are routed and filled as part of the prep process. Active structural cracks are noted separately since coating does not correct a structural issue.

Is a two-car garage really done in two days?

For a standard two-car garage, yes: grinding, crack repair, and the base coat on day one, then the finish and topcoat on day two.

What's the difference between epoxy and a polyaspartic topcoat?

Epoxy gives strong adhesion and color depth; a polyaspartic topcoat adds UV stability and a faster cure. We often combine the two. See epoxy vs. polyaspartic for a full comparison.

Do you install epoxy garage floors outside of Richmond city?

Yes, we cover Richmond, Henrico, Glen Allen, Short Pump, Midlothian, Chesterfield, Mechanicsville, and Ashland. See service areas for details.

What does the free estimate involve?

We look at the garage in person, check the concrete's condition, measure the space, and talk through which system fits, then give you a firm price.
